it’s time to grab your Thing One and Thing Two and head to the Zach Theatre for their presentation of Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat, premiering on Friday, Feb. 21 at 6:30 pm. Join Sally and her brother as that infamous cat and his sidekicks stir up mischief and trouble in the classic tale, based on the beloved book and adapted by Katie Mitchell. Shows Fridays at 6:30 pm, Saturdays and Sundays at 11 am and 2 pm through May 3. Tickets $16 for adults and $14 for youth.
After two cancellations due to inclement weather, the elementary East Austin College Prep campus finally had its open house last Thursday, Feb. 13. Do512 Family editor, Jamie Jett, is an East Austin resident and her curiosity was piqued. So she went to the open house and took some notes to share.

Saturday, Feb. 15 from 1 pm to 3 pm, bring the whole family out to enjoy a reading, book-signing and crafting event! Local author, Yolanda King, will read her debut children’s book, Curlilocks and the Three Pink Pandas, followed by an awesome butterfly craft that all the children will enjoy.
Take a guided trip down the Colorado River at the Light o’ the Moon Float Trip. This moonlit trip down a tranquil section of the river begins at 7 pm on Friday, February 14 at McKinney Roughs Nature Park and runs (paddles) through 11 pm. The cost of the trip is $50 and pre-registration is required. You can register online here.
Valentines Day Escape, happens on Saturday, Feb. 15 from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm at Dittmar Recreation Center. Parents can watch a romantic movie in the park while kids have all kinds of kid fun inside the gym.

Head to the Millie & Mox Children’s Boutique on Friday, Feb. 14 at 3:30 pm for their Valentine’s Day Party and Sale. The celebration will feature a FREE kid’s cake pop decorating class from Silver Whisk Cooking School from 3:30 – 4:30, after which you can do a little shopping and save 20% on all red and pink apparel and receive a free gift voucher. Free snacks and juice will be served throughout the day.
The Nano Exhibit at the Austin Nature and Science Center is an interactive experience for you and your family. Head to the ANSC anytime from now until June 10 and learn all about what nano means for you. This exhibit is, of course, free, as are all of the activities at the ANSC.
