The Austin Steam Train Association has a wonderful opportunity for you to take your family on a fun outing while teaching your kids about the importance of giving to those in need. A Teddy Bear Train ride is scheduled for July 9 at 9 a.m. to benefit the Center for Child Protection. For this morning event through the Hill Country, kids ages 13 and under can ride for free with the donation of a new teddy bear or stuffed animal for children at the Center who need some extra special comfort. Plus, all kids are invited to bring their own stuffed animal friends to ride along on this little adventure!

How Your Teddy Bear Donations Can Help: The mission of the Center for Child Protection is to reduce the trauma for children during the investigation and prosecution of crimes against children. After visiting the Center for the first time, children are given a brand new teddy bear or stuffed animal to help provide a sense of safety during a difficult time. It also represents a new beginning. With a continually increasing number of children visiting the Center each day, they ask for your support in keeping their teddy bear and stuffed animal supply fully stocked. In addition to your donation during this special Teddy Bear Train ride, you can also donate items at any time. View their wish list here.

All Aboard for a Fun Ride: On July 9, you can hop aboard the Bertram Flyer and ride in a real vintage train car from the golden era of rail travel, built in the ’30s, ’40s and ’50s, and fully restored for your enjoyment. On board the train, your 44-mile journey spans the South San Gabriel River and stops for a 15-minute layover at the historic 1912 Bertram Depot. Enjoy views of Short Creek Canyon, the 300-foot-long wooden trestle bridge over the South San Gabriel, and the Duffy-Shamrock communications mast-one of the tallest structures in the world!

Costumes and your own special teddy bears are encouraged on this ride! Complimentary lemonade will be available in the Cedar Park concession car. Doors will open at 8 a.m., the train will depart at 9 a.m. and return around 12:30 p.m.
