We’re big fans of Austin Museum Day! Every September, local museums open their doors to visitors completely free. This annual occasion gives us the chance to explore exhibits with plenty of special family-friendly activities throughout the day. Where to take the kids on Austin Museum Day
Laguna Gloria
Special activities from 12:30 pm – 2 pm
Celebrate Austin Museum Day at Laguna Gloria with free family fun on Sunday, September 21. Kids can design their own dye-it-yourself bandana, connect with Austin Youth River Watch, and join playful, sculpture-inspired yoga sessions led by Amber Byfield of Wisdom at Play at 12:30 pm and 2 pm. Pioneer Farms
Special activities from 10 am – 4 pm
Step back in time to when Texas was an untamed frontier. Visit Pioneer Farms’ restored historic homesteads, take a guided tour, see blacksmiths at work, listen to live music, and see historical exhibits and reenactments. Neill-Cochran House Museum
Special activities from 11 am – 4 pm
Celebrate Austin Museum Day at the Neill-Cochran House Museum on Sunday, September 21, with free admission from 11 am – 4 pm. Families can tour one of Austin’s oldest historic homes, enjoy art activities, living history, live music, lawn games, sweet treats, and more fun on the lawn. LBJ Presidential Library & Museum
Special activities from 9:30 am – 3 pm
Celebrate Austin Museum Day at the LBJ Presidential Library on Sunday, September 21, with free admission and family fun. Kids can enjoy bilingual (English & Spanish) story time, hands-on arts and crafts, and activities highlighting Hispanic cultures. Bullock Museum
Special activities from 10 am – 2 pm
Celebrate Austin Museum Day at the Bullock Museum with free admission on Sunday, September 21. Stop by the Austin Museum Partnership HQ tent on the Lone Star Plaza to plan your day, and from 10 am – 2 pm enjoy the sounds of Native American flutes by the Lone Star Flute Circle as you explore the galleries.
Williamson Museum (in Georgetown, TX)
Open from 1 – 4 pm
Celebrate Austin Museum Day at The Williamson Museum in Georgetown on Sunday, September 21, from 1–4 pm.
