Each year, high school and college students from across the country come to participate in Summer Stock Austin to learn about every part of a professional theatre company. The “company” rehearses for to share fully produced musicals in the Rollins Theatre at the Long Center, and you can catch these talented young performers in several productions this summer. The 2017 season includes Annie Get Your Gun Spamalot and a show for kids — A Shoe Story.

A Shoe Story: New Musical Comedy
July 25 – August 12, daytime & evening shows (click here for schedule)

From the creative minds of Allen Robertson and Damon Brown of the Biscuit Brothers comes A Shoe Story, a musical loosely based on “The Elves & the Shoemaker” in which Sydney, a 13th generation shoemaker, lives in a flooded town. Her business is failing and Sydney will have to close the shop for good if she can’t sell her last pair of shoes. But when a shoeless girl arrives at her door, the shoemaker gives the shoes away. What is there to do but to solve everyone’s problems with rap battles, lounge singing, and magical, tap-dancing shoes? It’s a Tall Tale… with plenty of Heart and Sole! Tickets are $17, which you can get online here. Scroll below to enter to win a 4-pack!

Monty Python’s Spamalot
July 21 – August 12, 7:30 p.m. evening shows & 2 p.m. Sunday shows
Monty Python’s Spamalot, the musical comedy sensation “lovingly ripped off” from the film classic Monty Python and The Holy Grail, leaps onto the Rollins stage this summer. As gleefully silly yet wickedly smart as Monty Python, the beloved British comedy troupe that inspired it, Spamalot parodies the legend of King Arthur and his band of haphazard knights as they sing and dance their way through an inane divine quest, dodging giant wooden rabbits, obnoxious Frenchmen, and a death-defying limbless knight along the way. Tickets are $27 which you can purchase online here.

Annie Get Your Gun
August 2 – 12, 7:30 p.m. & 2 p.m. showtimes
Irving Berlin’s glorious wild west spectacle celebrates the legendary sure-shot, Annie Oakley.  The musical features countless standards, including “You Can’t Get a Man With a Gun,” “There’s No Business Like Show Business,” “I Got Lost in His Arms,” and “Anything You Can Do.” The original production proved to be Berlin’s longest-running Broadway show. Tickets for this much loved musical are $27, which you can purchase online here.
