On Saturday, August 4, you can be a part of the excitement as 19,000 yellow rubber ducks race down Lady Bird Lake for a wonderful cause! Join the 5th Annual Austin Duck Derby hosted by the Austin Boys & Girls Club Foundation to support their amazing youth programs. Presented by Austin Sonic Drive-Ins, the Duck Derby is one part duck race, and one part free, family-friendly fest. Read on for event details and how to adopt a duck to enter the race!
Head out to the day’s Duck Fest activities from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. on the grassy area by the Austin American-Statesman., which will include food tucks, live music (for shaking your tail feathers), and kids games. The most exciting part happens at 11 a.m. when the duck drop launches more than 19,000 eco-friendly toy ducklings into the water from the Ann W. Richards Congress Bridge. Ducks will float to the finish line with a little help from water currents and sprays from the Austin Fire Department. The “adoptive parents” of these winning ducks will earn great prizes!
–> Adopt a Duck! Don’t miss out on the all of the fun — and fundraising! Click here to adopt your duck. Online duck adoptions are available now through midnight Friday, August 3 — or until ducks sell out (which they have done in past years). Single ducks can be adopted for $5, and Quack Packs, Flocks, and the Quacker’s Dozen are also available. This year’s prizes include a 2018 Volkswagen Jetta, a vacation in Telluride, Colorado, and a pair of season tickets to UT Longhorn Football games.
Your duck adoptions will benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area to help ensure that local youth who lack free or affordable out-of-school-time programming receive the support they need to build great futures and become productive, caring and responsible citizens.
Do512 Family is a proud sponsor of this event, and we sure hope you’ll join us there!
