Your young nature lovers can have a blast this summer at Camp Balcones, Camp Fire’s summer day program at Emma Long Park! This nature and science camp for ages 6-12 sparks curiosity and inspires learning with weekly STEM-based nature and science themes and plenty of hands-on activities. Your kids can explore nature, identify plants and animals, and have fun with some unstructured play time, too. Campers will be in great care as they also go swimming, canoeing, hiking, try archery and play games.

Camp Balcones is offered for 10 weeks during the summer, beginning on June 4, with sessions running Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. You can choose from five unique weekly STEM-based themes which incorporate project-based activities:

  • Week of Wings
  • Animal Adaptations
  • Shark Week
  • Sky Search
  • Camping 101

Campers can be transported to and from Emma Long Park with pick-up and drop-off at Maplewood Elementary and Northwest Recreation Center.

One week of camp costs $350, and you can register online here. A limited number of partial scholarships and sliding fee spaces are available. Please call Camp Fire at 512-349-2111 to learn more and visit www.camp-fire.org/summer-camp to see a sample schedule for day camp.
