We’re loving this weather, and we have every intention of getting into it this weekend, join us! Here are your top 10 Austin family events

Today:

— See the majestic Gala of the Royal Horses at the Frank Erwin Center tonight at 7 pm. Stallions will perform maneuvers previously only seen at famous riding schools in Vienna and Spain. They’ll even dance alongside flamenco dancers, bringing the heart of Spain to the audience. Tickets are $20 – $55 and you can buy them here. Read more about the gala here.

— Let the wee ones unwind at The Little Yoga House for Kids Night Out, while you enjoy a night on the town. Kids will do yoga in their pajamas, eat pizza, watch a movie and relax from 5 – 9 pm. $35 per child, register here.

Cat in the Hat premieres at ZACH Theatre tonight at 6:30 pm, and will continue throughout the weekend and every weekend until May 3 (see full schedule here). Tickets are $14 – $16 and can be purchased here.

Tomorrow:

— Take an opportunity to visit with many of Austin’s unusual and off-the-beaten-path schools at the Alternative School Fair at Casa de Luz from 1 – 4 pm. Free, informative and fun for the whole family!

Illuminate Austin: A Walk for Safe Families will be at the Mueller Lake Park Outdoor Amphitheater from 4:30 – 8 pm. The whole family is invited to take a stroll through the park along a path lined with beautiful luminarias. Kids can make these luminarias, dance to DJ tunes and more. While a registration fee is not required, participants are encouraged to make a $20 donation that will benefit SafePlace, an organization the provides shelter and essential services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence in Austin. Little Red Chunari wraps up performances at the Scottish Rite Theater with two shows at 11 am and 1 pm on Saturday, and two shows on Sunday at 12:30 and 2:30 pm. Don’t miss your final chances to see this Indian version of Little Red Riding Hood that Austin audiences are loving. — The week’s a rap, celebrate Saturday with children’s favorite rapper, Big Don, performing at Strange Brew at 10 am, for FREE!

Sunday:

— First thing’s first, get to Sherwood Forest Faire between 10 am and noon and get buy one get one admission if you buy your ticket at the gate. Then you can spend the day wandering the Fairegrounds taking in all of the shows, pubs, shoppes, music, restaurants and scenery. The faire will be open from 10 am – dusk, ticket prices range from $9 – $20, more info here. Kids under 6 get in free. Read our review, pick out a costume and get to the faire!

— Take the Capital City Express ride on the Austin Steam Train at 3 pm. This 60-mile, 3-hour ride will take you from Cedar Park, to Austin, and back, and will give you a view of the city like you’ve never seen. Tickets are $15 – $41.66 and you can buy them here.

The Oasis is holding a Texas Running of the Bulls, aka, a FREE car show with more than 100 vintage to modern exotic Italian automobiles including Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Maseratis and more. Your little car enthusiast will love seeing these cars up close and in person. Free to attend, open from 11 am – 3 pm.
