This summer, you can enroll your high school students in a variety of interesting camps that are designed and taught by UT faculty entirely online! In Summer Camps at the UT School of Design & Creative Technologies, students will learn about game design, graphic design, and animation. Through each program, students have the unique opportunity to create a portfolio piece as they prepare to apply for college.

Please note that UT has cancelled all in-person programming for this summer. Therefore virtual camp options are being offered.

Students between the ages of 14 and 18 or entering 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade may register for these day camps. There’s no need to have any prior game, graphic, or animation design experience to attend, unless otherwise noted in the institute prerequisites. Click here for the full schedule of camps and check out the overview of topics below.Take a look at these six camps offerings for summer 2020:

Game Design Institutes:

  • Game Design
Games are more than just entertainment — they are a shared language of interaction. Learn the basics of creating a video game from scratch with this 2-week intensive summer program. Come up with your very own game idea and bring it to life with art and code. This course will primarily use Unity, Maya, and Photoshop as development tools.
  • Virtual Reality Design
Learn about virtual reality (VR) and create your own VR experience! Build off of what you learned about Game Design and explore how games are made for VR.

Graphic Design Institutes:

  • Identity and Branding
Students will learn how to create a company or product identity by closely collaborating with a local Austin client. Campers will create and arrange typography both by hand using unconventional materials and on the computer in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. After presenting work to the client, students will also have the opportunity to screen print their designs for their portfolios.
  • Digital Product Design
This institute equips students to navigate the design process while creating human-centered solutions to promote healthy habits. Campers will create paper and digital prototypes using Invision and design an app interface using Figma.

Animation Institutes:

  • Animation and Motion
Students will examine design and practices of traditional 2-dimensional animation using conceptual thinking and technical methodology.
  • Advanced Animation and Motion
Students will develop animation skills while creatively considering the interaction of media, imagery, composition, and content using traditional and modern digital animation methods.
