If you read our Family Friendly Events During SX 2014 post the other day, you may have been thinking, “How the heck am I supposed to pull all of this off with kids in tow?” Well, you probably can’t. But you can definitely pick and choose, and you could definitely use some advice if you’re never done it before. Do512 Family Featured Babymaker, Nicole from LiveMom, shared her Tips for Doing SX With Kids with us today. SXSW Create – Makers, Hackers and DIYers Unite!

The third installment of SXSW Interactive’s Create event will be coming to the City Terrace at the Long Center Friday, March 7-Sunday March 8 from 11 am to 6 pm and is FREE and open to the public. That’s right, no badge required!

Starry Nights at GirlStart

See a mini planetarium star show at the GirlStart STEM Center Thursday, Mar. 6 at the Starry Nights events from 6 – 7:30 pm. This event is completely free, but registration is required and you can do that here. All ages are welcome to explore outer space via the GirlStart mini planetarium, and fun, hands-on activities will follow.

SXSWedu Expo @ Austin Convention Center, 2 – 8 pm -> This FREE expo invites learners of all ages to explore their immediate and long-term education and career goals. Attendees can engage with local education initiatives through hands-on, interactive exhibits. Register online to attend.

LABRARY @ O. Henry Museum, 11 am – 7, Mar. 7 – 11 -> The LABRARY is an experimental pop-up library that engages students in designing and building future library machines. It will be a place to play with media, share ideas, discuss the future of the library and create and exhibit your own library machines. It’s all taking place on the lawn of the museum for free.

SXSW Gaming Expo @ Palmer Events Center, Mar. 7 – 9 pm -> 1 – 9 pm, the gaming Expo is free and open to the public with Guest Pass wristbands, which can be found here. The expo combines well-loved elements of geek culture with the cross-console video game world.

SXSW Create @ Long Center, 11 am – 6 pm, Mar. 7 – 9 -> From 3D printing to drones to biohacking and much more, this community event showcases the disruptive solutions that are shaping our future. Experience all the mind-expanding and hands-on fun, for FREE!

Kiss the Clock @ UT Austin, 11:30 am -> The Give More Than You Take Foundation in association with Google+ wants to kiss away a moment that will always be a somber memory, the shootings of Aug. 1, 1966. Give the beautiful clock a big community hug and thousands of kisses by breaking the Guiness Book of World Records for the number of smooches at the same time.

4th Annual Go by GoLab Carnival @ GoLab Austin, 6 – 8:30 pm -> Music from Ephraim Owens and Anthropos Arts, live art from Tina Schweiger and gaming in the Plantronics Game Center. There will be treats from Live Soda Kombucha, Revolution Spirits, local beer and healthy finger foods. Bring a carnival mask and dancing shoes to this free, family friendly party!

SXSW Community Workshop: Austin School of Film Youth M.A.F.I.A. @ TBA, 10 am -10 pm, Mar. 8 – 9 -> Texas high school students ages 14 – 19 come together to create short films in only 24 hours during the Annual youth M.A.F.I.A. Day Film Festival & Screening. Teams have 24 hours to write, shoot and edit a short film. Finished films will be screened for the public at an official SXSW Film Showcase during the festival (Wednesday, Mar. 12 at the Vimeo Theater at the Convention Center, 11 am). There is VERY limited space to this event, click here for more info and registration information, $10.

GoBank #PuppyHour @ PetRelocation, 9 am – 5 pm, Mar. 8 – 9 -> Take a break from your SXSW schedule to play with puppies, enjoy refreshments and enter a raffle hosted by Austin Pets Alive!  All puppies will be up for adoption, but if you aren’t ready to take the plunge and get a new pet, come play with the puppies anyway!

Ron Campbell Drawing Live @ Wild About Music, 1 – 9 pm, Mar. 8 – 15 -> Join Wild About Music each day during SXSW for this rare artist appearance and show of Beatles Cartoon Art. Campbell is the artist responsible for the Beatles Yellow Submarine, as well as cartoons like Scooby Doo, Winnie the Pooh, The Jetsons, The Flintstones, Rugrats and dozens more. Visitors can chat with the artist and watch him paint original works each day. His art will be for sale and there will be an extensive array of collectibles and apparel to commemorate the Beatles.

Austin School of Film Youth 3D Workshop @ Carver Museum and Cultural Center, 10:30 am – 3:30 pm -> This free workshop, open to ages 11 – 18, invites participants to use their imagination to create miniature 3D worlds using handmade animation techniques with award-winning animator, Jeanne Stern. Finished creations will screen at 2014 SXSW Official Film at the Vimeo Theater on Mar. 12 at 11 am. This is open to only 15 people, first come, first serve.

Priceless Pennies @ Mount Bonnell, 9 am -> Art is in the value of the CENTiment behind it, so grab a penny, paint it, etch it, form it. Let your imaginations run wild. Then meet at the foothill of Mt. Bonnell at 10 am to race up the stairs and await further instructions from the Give More than you Take Foundation.

SXSW Eco Light Garden @ Republic Square Park, evenings, Mar. 8 – 15 -> Swing by the park to see new installations that play with light, sound and geometry. The Light Garden is free and open to the public.

The Spotify Studio Unofficial SX 2014 @ Spotify House, 11 am – 2 pm -> Ages 13 – 18 are invited to mix, write, and master the music industry at this special event with free workshops in DJing, songwriting and music marketing. Girls Rock Camp, Anthropos Arts and ReRoute Music have come together to host this exciting day where teenagers will spark their creativity and become inspired through music. Free with RSVP.
