After the week we’ve had in Austin, we basically deserve the timing of National Pizza Day this Thursday, February 9.  Pizza in the morning, pizza in the evening, pizza at supper time — mmkay, we stole that from the Pizza Bagel commercial.  But hey — whether you like yours hot or cold, thin crust or Neapolitan, on National Pizza Day, an honorary holiday, you can snag deals at participating pizza joints to celebrate, or you can make your own at home.  Check our suggestions below.

Heart Shaped Pizza via Southside Flying Pizza, available Feb 10-14

You could also celebrate at home by making:

  • Matzah Pizza – Put marinara on matzah, add mozzarella cheese, and heat at 425 in your oven for 7-10 minutes.
  • English Muffin Pizza – Same as above, but with English muffins as your “pizza crust”.
  • Pizza Bar with your own toppings.  Grab a pre-made crust at your local grocer, spread on marinara, sprinkle mozzarella cheese, and add the toppings of your choice.  We like putting out little bowls of capers, onions, peppers and olives to choose from.  Bake in the oven at 425 and voila — you’re a pizza chef!
